1. | Remove the liner from the adhesive backing of the gasket (10). Carefully position the adhesive side of the gasket to the backplate, aligning to the equally spaced screw holes. Press the gasket firmly into place.
2. | See Figure 3. Insert the two breather bolts (8) through the air cleaner backplate (7). Remove the adhesive backing on the two intake tube gaskets (6). Install on the induction module side of the backplate.
3. | Apply threadlocker to the breather bolt threads and the mating tapped holes in the cylinder head. Position back cover over backplate.
4. | Thread the bolts into the cylinder head, but do not tighten.
5. | Thread the air cleaner mounting studs (1) all the way through the backplate (8) until the screw threads are captured in the induction module. Leave fasteners loose.
6. | Secure the three air cleaner studs. Tighten. Torque: 6.2–6.8 N·m (55–60 in-lbs) Hex head screw
7. | Alternately tighten the two breather bolts. Tighten. Torque: 13.6–16.3 N·m (120–144 in-lbs) Hex head bolt
8. | Install the adapter plate assembly (2) to the mounting studs (1) using hex socket button head screws (with threadlocker applied). Tighten. Torque: 4.1–6.8 N·m (55–60 in-lbs)
9. | Assemble breather plugs (9) to breather bolts (8).
10. | If removing the Original Equipment (OE) intake you must apply the provided Warning Label in a clearly visible area. We suggest attaching the sticker to the following: a. Softail: Right side lower fender b. Dyna: Right side swing arm. |
1. | See Figure 3. Secure the air filter element (3) to the adapter plate assembly (2) using three hex socket button head screws (5). Tighten. Torque: 6.2–6.8 N·m (55–60 in-lbs) button head screw
2. | Remove the liner from the adhesive backing of the air cleaner emblem (11). Carefully position the adhesive side of the emblem to the front cover (4). Press the emblem firmly into place.
3. | Assemble wire mesh (14) and filler plate (15) to front cover.
4. | Apply threadlocker to all cover screws (13) and mating tapped holes in back cover (16).
5. | See Figure 1. Install front cover plate with wire mesh and mesh filler plate using 1/4-20x2.5 in. SHCS screws provided. Alternate tightening in a star pattern until all six fasteners are snug. Then one-half turn (180 degree) each in same pattern. This is to avoid crushing the element. If necessary, another one-quarter turn (90 degree) but no more. | Figure 1. Fastener Tightening Sequence |
