1. | See Figure 1. Remove two clamps (4) and remove collector shield (5). | |||||||||||||||||
2. | Note the clamp (8) orientation and loosen stock muffler clamp. NOTE Do not remove flange nut and pin (6). It will slide out as an assembly when the muffler is removed. | |||||||||||||||||
3. | Remove and retain stock bolt (1). | |||||||||||||||||
4. | Remove stock muffler from the exhaust bracket and head pipe and discard stock muffler clamp. If the rubber isolator (7) pulls out of exhaust bracket, push it back into place. | |||||||||||||||||
5. | Place a new muffler clamp on inlet end of muffler in the same orientation as the stock clamp. | |||||||||||||||||
6. | Slide muffler onto head pipe while aligning the new pin bracket with the hole in the rubber isolator (7). | |||||||||||||||||
7. | Align the holes in the muffler bracket and the exhaust bracket and install the screw (1). Tighten screw to 23–28 N·m (17–21 ft-lbs). | |||||||||||||||||
8. | Tighten new muffler clamp (8) to 52–58 N·m (38–43 ft-lbs). | |||||||||||||||||
9. | Install the collector shield with clamps (4). | |||||||||||||||||
NOTICE Wipe all fingerprints off of exhaust system components after installation and before starting engine. Oil from hands can leave permanent marks on exhaust system finish. (00346a) | ||||||||||||||||||
10. | Wipe muffler clean of all fingerprints. Oil from hands will burn permanently into chrome finish. | |||||||||||||||||
11. | Start engine and check for exhaust leaks. | |||||||||||||||||
12. | Install saddlebags following the instructions in the service manual. |
