Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
This kit is required in order to complete the installation of a detachable saddlebag kit on specific motorcycles.
Tools and Supplies Required
A Terminal Pick (Snap-On® TT600 or equivalent) will aid in the installation of this kit.
Electrical Contact lube (Part No. 99861-02) or equivalent is required for the proper installation of this kit. This item is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
Loctite 243 Medium Strength Threadlocker and Sealant (blue) (Part No. 99642-97) is required for the proper installation of this kit. This item is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
Kit Contents
REMOVAL
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
1. See service manual. Remove main fuse.
2. See service manual. Remove seat.
3. See service manual. Remove rear turn signal lamp.
4. Remove turn signal harness from behind wire retention pads on fender support.
INSTALLATION
NOTE
Proper installation of kit requires that tasks be completed for one side of the motorcycle first before continuing to the opposite side.
1. See Figure 1. Route turn signal harness through access hole of turn signal mount (1). To view turn signal assembly See Figure 4.

2. See Figure 4. Assemble turn signal.
a. Assemble turn signal (4) and lamp mounting support (3) to turn signal mount (1).
NOTE
  • See Figure 4. Discard washer originally located between turn signal mount (1) and screw (5). It is not used with this kit.
  • Left turn signal license plate mounting support is positioned between turn signal mount (1) and lamp mounting support (3).
b. Install screw (5). Tighten to specification.
Torque: 20–24 N·m (15–18 ft-lbs)
3. Route harness through turn signal mount.
3.1. Right: See Figure 2. Route turn signal harness (1) through turn signal mount and exit past the mounting boss (2).

4. See Figure 4. Install turn signal backplate (7) and flat head hex socket screws (6) to turn signal mount (1).
Torque: 0.7–0.847 N·m (6.2–7.5 in-lbs)
5. Route turn signal harness through hole of fender support (9).
6. Install turn signal mount assembly.
a. Install turn signal mount assembly (1) to fender support (9).
b. Install flange locknut (8) and screw (2). Tighten.
Torque: 34–37 N·m (25–27 ft-lbs)

8. See Figure 7. Apply one or two drops of Loctite 243 Medium Strength Threadlocker and Sealant (blue) to screws (4). Install fender support (1), washers (3), and screws.
a. Tighten to specification:
Torque: 41–47 N·m (30–35 ft-lbs)
b. Loosen screw (4) and retighten to specification:
Torque: 52–57 N·m (38–42 ft-lbs)
9. Apply one or two drops of Loctite 243 Medium Strength Threadlocker and Sealant (blue) to screws (2). Install screws.
a. Tighten to specification:
Torque: 28–37 N·m (21–27 ft-lbs)

10. Repeat procedure for opposite side.
SPLICE HARNESS
1. Using wires in kit, splice in extra wires to make harness connections.
2. Follow instructions in service manual to perform splice connector repair.
