Installation Requirements
This kit requires the separate purchase of LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (99642-97).
This kit will fit A/C's equipped with Premium Air Filters (part numbers 29400358 and 29400359).
WARNINGRider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation. One is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
REMOVAL
- Remove main fuse. See the service manual.
- Carefully remove air cleaner cover, if equipped, from air cleaner.
INSTALLATION
NOTE
When servicing the air cleaner, apply LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (99642-97) on fastener threads.
NOTE
See Figure 1. Kit includes:
- cover insert (4), which is optional in cover assembly.
- spacer (5) and shorter screw (1), which is required for use with air filter p/n 29400358.
- Air filter p/n 29400359 utilizes the longer screw (2) only.
| 1. | Apply threadlocker to the screw (2). Position the air cleaner cover (3) and insert (4), which is optional, and appropriate combination of screw (1 or 2) and spacer (5). Install the screw.LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (99642-97) | |
| 2. | Tighten the air cleaner cover screw (2) securely. Torque: 4.1–6.8 N·m (36–60 in-lbs) | |
| 3. | Install main fuse. | |
| 4. | If removing the Original Equipment (OE) intake you must apply the provided Warning Label in a clearly visible area. We suggest attaching the sticker to the following: a. Touring/Trike: Right side battery cover or inner primary b. Softail: Right side steer head casting |
