Installation Requirements
Separate purchase of ANTI-SEIZE LUBRICANT (98960-97) for proper installation of this kit.
Kit Contents

If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation.
Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00308b)
NOTE
A service manual for the year and model motorcycle is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
INSTALLATION
Remove Original Equipment (OE) Exhaust Shields
- See Figure 1 Remove the six screws and the collector shield (A).
- Remove the four pipe shield clamps (B) and the exhaust pipe shields (1, 2).
- Remove the clamps from the exhaust shields and save for installation.
NOTE
Note the position of the OE clamp screws securing the exhaust shields to the exhaust pipes.
Install Exhaust Shields
| 1. | See Figure 1. Install the OE clamps to the new exhaust shields. Position the clamp screws as previously noted. | |
| 2. | Install and loosely position the new pipe shields. | |
| 3. | Apply anti-seize lubricant to screws. | |
| 4. | Install collector shield. | |
| 5. | Install screws. | |
NOTICE Wipe all fingerprints off of exhaust system components after installation and before starting engine. Oil from hands can leave permanent marks on exhaust system finish. (00346a) | ||
| 6. | Secure the screws. Tighten. Torque: 8.8–10.8 N·m (78–96 in-lbs) | |
| 7. | Position and secure the pipe shield clamps. Tighten. Torque: 2.3–4.5 N·m (20–40 in-lbs) |
