Installation Requirements
WARNINGRider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
Refer to the service manual for specific information on these generalized steps. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation. Manuals are available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
This kit requires the separate purchase of LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (99642-97).
Proper installation of these kits in certain markets require the separate purchase of amber colored Original Equipment (OE) reflectors which are available at a Harley-Davidson dealer.
Purchase of additional cable straps may be required.
PREPARATION
| 1. | Remove seat. See the owner's manual. | |
| 2. | Remove main fuse. See the owner's manual. | |
| 3. | Remove saddlebags, if equipped. See the owner's manual. |
REMOVE
| 1. | See Figure 1. Disconnect rear lighting connectors (2,3). | |
| 2. | Note locations of cable straps (1). | |
| 3. | Remove and discard cable strap(s) as needed. | |
| 4. | Remove fender. a. Support rear fender. b. Remove fender screws (4) and washers from both sides. c. Remove fender assembly. |

DISASSEMBLE
NOTE
Refer to the service manual for specific information on these generalized steps.
| 1. | Remove and discard anchor cable straps as necessary to remove fender support from fender. | |
| 2. | Remove fasteners securing fender supports to fender. | |
| 3. | NOTE Record orientation of all items attached to fender supports. NOTE Some models require removing the pins from the license plate light wiring connector. a. Retention pads b. Turn signal lamps c. Lamp mounting supports d. License plate mount |
ASSEMBLE
NOTE
Refer to the service manual for specific information on these generalized steps.
| 1. | As needed, assemble following components to new fender supports. a. License plate mount b. Lamp mounting supports c. Turn signal lamps | |
| 2. | Install screw and washer to secure components to new fender support. Torque: 20–24 N·m (15–18 ft-lbs) Rear Turn Signal, Fender Mount, Screw | |
| 3. | Route harness through fender support. | |
| 4. | Clean retention pad locations with a 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. Allow to dry completely. | |
| 5. | NOTE Foam and adhesive must be clear of mounting boss surfaces and not extend below bottom edge of support. | |
| 6. | Apply threadlocker to threads of rear fender support screws.LOCTITE 243 MEDIUM STRENGTH THREADLOCKER AND SEALANT (BLUE) (99642-97) | |
| 7. | Using original hardware, attach fender supports to fender. | |
| 8. | Tighten fasteners. Torque: 28–37 N·m (21–27 ft-lbs) Rear fender support screw | |
| 9. | Clean reflector locations with a 50:50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water. Allow to dry completely. | |
| 10. | NOTE Install separately purchased amber reflectors when it is the OE color. |
INSTALL
| 1. | See Figure 1. Install rear fender. a. Place fender into position. b. Install screws (4) and washers. Tighten. Torque: 57–62 N·m (42–46 ft-lbs) Rear fender support to frame screw | |
| 2. | NOTE If fender is not centered over tire loosen fasteners and adjust, then tighten fasteners to specifications given. | |
| 3. | Connect connectors (2, 3). | |
| 4. | Install new cable strap(s) (1) in original locations as noted in remove and disassemble sections. |
Complete
| 1. | Install saddlebags, if equipped. See the owner's manual. | |
| 2. | Install main fuse. See the owner's manual. | |
| 3. | Install seat. See the owner's manual. |
