Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for the year and model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from:
  • A Harley-Davidson dealer.
  • H-D Service Information Portal, a subscription-based access available for most 2001 and newer models. For more information see Frequently ask questions about subscriptions.
  • Saddlebag lid bras are held in place by hook-and-loop fasteners. The hook fastener adhesive must be allowed to cure for 24 hours before installing lid bras.
  • The bras are designed to have an extremely tight fit that may make installation difficult, especially for the first time. To ease installation, warm bras by exposing to direct sunlight or a hair dryer prior to installation. Improper or tight fitment is not a warrantable condition.
  • Installation may be easier with saddlebags removed from vehicle.
PREPARE
1. Remove saddlebags (optional). See owner's manual.
2. Open saddlebag lid. Remove two screws attaching check strap to lid. See service manual.
3. Wash entire saddlebag lid, inside and out, with warm, soapy water. Rinse and allow to dry thoroughly.
INSTALL
NOTE
  • These saddlebag lid bras are designed to have a tight fit and must be stretched slightly when installed for the first time. This can make bras seem undersize and installation difficult. To ease installation, bras can be preheated by exposing to direct sunlight. The bras will soften and stretch with less force. The bras may need to be adjusted a few days after installation for a perfect fit.
  • DO NOT fasten saddlebag lid bra loop fastener tabs to hook fasteners until adhesive has cured for 24 hours.
  • Saddlebag lid bras are side-specific. A Bar & Shield logo is stitched into rear face of each cover.
  • Removal of the handle is not required when slipping hole in cover over latch handle.
1. Use alcohol prep pad provided in kit to further clean inside of saddlebag lid in areas where hook fasteners will be attached.
a. See Figure 2. Notice where three hook fasteners (A) will be attached to latch assembly. Make sure surface area is prepped.
2. See Figure 2. Install hook fastener strips:
a. Place correct saddlebag lid bra over saddlebag lid in its proper position.
b. Bring bra tabs over edge of lid to serve as a guide in positioning hook fasteners on inside of saddlebag lid.
c. Remove protective backing from one hook fastener strip at a time.
d. Use corresponding loop fastener tab on bra as a positioning guide only, then fold it back out of way. Press hook fastener strip firmly into place on inside of lid.
3. Repeat procedure for opposite saddlebag lid.
4. Allow hook fastener adhesive to cure for at least 24 hours before installing saddlebag lid bras.
5. After checking that hook fastener strips are firmly attached, install cover bra:
a. Place correct saddlebag lid bra over saddlebag lid in its proper position with latch lever through cover hole.
b. Bring bra tabs over edge of saddlebag lid and starting with tabs next to the hinge, work around cover in both directions, ending at center of the inboard side (anchor tab (9)).
c. Pull lid bra so that hem extends past bottom of saddlebag lid all around. Adjust loop fastener tabs as needed for best appearance.
d. Check that lid closes and latches correctly.
6. Repeat on opposite saddlebag.
