Tools and Supplies Required
Electrical Contact Lube (Part No. 99861-02) or equivalent is required after battery cable disconnection. This item is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)

This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
Electrical Overload
NOTICE
It is possible to overload the vehicle's charging system by adding too many electrical accessories. If the combined electrical accessories operating at any one time consume more electrical current than the vehicle's charging system can produce, the electrical consumption can discharge the battery and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system. WARNING
When installing any electrical accessory, be certain not to exceed the maximum amperage rating of the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the affected circuit being modified. Exceeding the maximum amperage can lead to electrical failures, which could result in death or serious injury. (00310a)
This kit requires up to 4.5 amps additional current from the electrical system while brakes are applied.

PREPARATION
NOTE
For vehicles equipped with security siren:
  • Verify that the Hands-Free Fob is present.
  • Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION.
For ALL vehicles with main fuse:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
  1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to remove the main fuse. Remove the seat. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
For ALL vehicles with main circuit breaker:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a)
  1. Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to remove the seat and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
INSTALLATION
  1. See Figure 1. Locate the rear wiring harness coming out of the rear fender in the area under the seat. Disconnect the rear fender wiring connector (1) from the main harness connector (2).
  2. See Figure 2. Get the turn signal module (3) from the kit and mate the module connectors to the male and female wiring harness connectors. Snap into place.
  3. NOTE
    Due to variations between models, there is no single best location to secure the module. When deciding on a location, make sure that the connectors and module will not be bound, and that wiring will not be pinched when the seat is installed. Also, be sure to maintain clearance between the wiring harness and the rear wheel beneath the fender.
  4. Use the cable straps (2) from the kit to secure the module, connector and wiring in the area under the seat.
  5. Locate the notch in the original amber turn signal lens, and insert a coin or a flat-blade screwdriver into the notch. Carefully twist the coin or screwdriver until the lens pops out of the rear turn signal housing. Repeat for the other rear turn signal lens.
  6. Obtain the red lenses (1) from the kit. Snap a lens into each turn signal housing.

RETURN TO SERVICE
NOTE
Verify that the ignition key switch is in the OFF position before installing the main fuse or attaching the negative battery cable.
1. Models with main fuse: Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to install the main fuse. Models with main circuit breaker: Refer to the service manual and follow the instructions to attach the negative battery cable. Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part No. 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the negative battery terminal.
WARNING
Be sure that all lights and switches operate properly before operating motorcycle. Low visibility of rider can result in death or serious injury. (00316a)
2. Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION, but do not start the motorcycle. Check for proper lamp function:
  • With ignition key switch ON, the left and right turn signal lamps and the center tail lamp are illuminated.
  • With brake lever or brake pedal actuation, the left and right turn signal lamps and the center tail lamp will brighten.
  • With left or right turn signal actuation, the correct vehicle turn signal will flash.
  • With hazard warning (emergency four-way flasher) actuation, both turn signals flash.
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
