Installation Requirements
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation. One is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
REMOVAL
NOTE
Avoid scratching painted surfaces with tools or metal seat tabs.
  1. Remove the left and right saddlebags following the instructions in the owner's manual.
  2. NOTE
    Note the mounting orientation of the saddlebag mounting brackets before removing.
  3. See Figure 1. Remove the left side forward saddlebag mounting bracket bolt and washer to remove the bracket and disconnect the grab strap. Save the hardware for installation.
  4. Install the saddlebag mounting bracket with the bolt and washer in the same orientation as removed. Leave fasteners loose.
  5. Remove the right side forward saddlebag mounting bracket bolt and washer. Save the hardware for installation.
  6. Remove and discard the grab strap.
  7. Remove the screw and lockwasher from the rear of the seat. Pull the seat rearward to remove the seat.
  8. Remove the 2 hex nuts from the studs near the front of the rear fender and discard.
  9. Remove the passenger footpegs or footboards, if installed. See the service manual.

INSTALLATION
1. Install the interface plate (5) on the studs. Install the locknuts (1) on the studs. Tighten nuts to 10.8 N·m (96 in-lbs).
2. Install the guide washer (6), inner collar facing up, on the interface plate (5) stud.
3. Install the new seat (4), with the slot in seat bottom engaged with the tongue on the fuel tank bracket and the rear of the seat is fastened over the interface plate stud.
NOTE
Adjusted to eliminate the gap between the front of the seat and the rear of the fuel tank console.
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
4. To adjust the seat, turn the seat over and loosen the two button head screws that secure the rear tab bracket (8). Slide the bracket forward or back as required. Tighten the button head screws to 10.8 N·m (96 in-lbs).
5. Once adjusted, install the chrome washer (3) and acorn nut (2) onto the stud on the interface plate. Tighten to 10.8 N·m (96 in-lbs).
6. Install the saddlebags. See the service manual.
