This kit is not compatible with a Fairing Bra (Part No. 57800-00).
Installation Requirements
If the HDI headlight position lamp terminals are in use by other electrical accessories, jumper harness kits (Part Nos. 70459-05 and 70458-05) are available separately from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
The help of an assistant will aid in the connection of the edge lights to the vehicle wiring.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)

This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD
NOTICE
It is possible to overload the vehicle's charging system by adding too many electrical accessories. If the combined electrical accessories operating at any one time consume more electrical current than the vehicle's charging system can produce, the electrical consumption can discharge the battery and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system. WARNING
When installing any electrical accessory, be certain not to exceed the maximum amperage rating of the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the affected circuit being modified. Exceeding the maximum amperage can lead to electrical failures, which could result in death or serious injury. (00310a)
This fairing edge light kit requires up to 390 mA additional current from the electrical system.

PREPARATION
NOTE
For vehicles equipped with security siren:
  • 2007 and later: Verify that the Hands-Free Fob is present. Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION.
  • 2006 and earlier: Disarm the siren with the key fob.
For Vehicles With Main Fuse:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
  1. See the service manual and remove the main fuse.
For Vehicles With Main Circuit Breaker:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a)
  1. See the service manual to remove the seat and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
  2. For ALL models: Turn the ignition key switch OFF if not already done.
INSTALLATION
Applying the Edge Lights
NOTE
  • Ambient temperature should be between 21 °C (70 °F) and 38 °C (100 °F) for proper adhesion of the edge lights to the outer fairing. Do not apply below 10 °C (50 °F)
  • Allow AT LEAST 24 hours after applying the edge lights before exposing the area to vigorous washing, strong water spray or extreme weather.
  • The adhesive bond will increase to maximum strength after about 72 hours at normal room temperature.
1. See Figure 1. Test-fit the edge lights (2) to the outer fairing before installation. Do not remove the liner until ready to apply the light strips.

2. Clean the outer fairing side edges with a 50-50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and distilled water. Allow to dry thoroughly.
3. Cut several strips of masking or electrical tape to 9.5 mm (⅜ in) wide.
4. Position the tape strips (1) along the outboard edge of the outer fairing in the area of installation.
5. With the wiring exiting the lower end of the strip, position a light strip on the fairing, along the inboard edge of the tape. Do not remove the adhesive backing at this time.
6. Allow the light strip to seek its best fit position along the curving surface. Hold or temporarily tape the strip in this location.
7. Pivot the adjustable air deflector (3, if installed) to be sure that the light strip does not interfere with movement. Reposition the strip slightly if necessary, and mark the final location with additional tape or a contrasting colored grease pencil. Be sure to mark the fairing surface at the upper end of the light strip.
8. Remove about 1/3 of the liner from the adhesive backing at the upper end of the light strip. Carefully position the light strip to the fairing at the 9.5 mm (⅜ in) distance from the edge, using the tape as a guide and aligning the strip with the references on the fairing. Slowly press the light strip into place while exposing more of the adhesive backing, keeping the strip aligned with the guide references.
9. Apply sliding pressure along the entire length of the light strip, making sure of a good bond.
10. Repeat on the opposite side of the fairing, making sure to align the top edge of the light strips on each side.
11. Remove the 9.5 mm (⅜ in) wide pieces of tape that outlined the fairing edge.
Connecting the Edge Lights
1. See Figure 2. Get the jumper harness (3), cable straps (4) and adhesive-backed clips (5) from the kit.

2. With the help of an assistant, remove the outer fairing per the service manual with the following possible exception:
a. The headlamp connector [38] (1) can remain plugged in to the back of the headlamp unless it is necessary to move the outer fairing to a work surface. Protect the outer fairing finish from damage by covering the work surface with H-D Service Covers or clean shop towels.
3. Locate the black and orange/white HDI headlight position spade terminals [29B-1] and [29B-2] taped back to the headlamp branch of the vehicle harness. Plug the orange/white spade terminal housing on the vehicle into the orange/white wired terminal housing (2) on the jumper harness (3). Plug the black wired spade terminal into the black wired terminal housing.
4. Bring the outer fairing near to its installed position.
5. Route the light strip wires into the inner fairing. Plug each jumper harness spade terminal into one of the light strip terminal housings (6). Plug the headlamp connector [38] into the back of the headlamp, if unplugged earlier.
6. Attach adhesive-backed clips (5) to the inner fairing, just above the fairing skirt seal (7). Use cable straps (2) to tie the wires to existing wiring.
7. Partially install the outer fairing per the service manual by starting the three screws with flat washers just below the windshield.
8. Models with main fuse: See the service manual and install the main fuse. Models with main circuit breaker: See the service manual and attach the negative battery cable. Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part No. 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the negative battery terminal.
9. Test the operation of the light strips. The strips should illuminate with the ignition key switch in the IGNITION or ACCESSORY position.
10. Complete the outer fairing installation per the service manual.
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
11. Models with main circuit breaker: See the service manual and install the seat.
