Installation Requirements
FLHR models will require separate purchase of a sealed splice connector (red, Part No. 70585-93).
For models with main circuit breaker, Electrical Contact Lube (H-D Part No. 99861-02) or equivalent is required after battery cable disconnection.
These items are available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)

This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
ELECTRICAL OVERLOAD
NOTICE
It is possible to overload the vehicle's charging system by adding too many electrical accessories. If the combined electrical accessories operating at any one time consume more electrical current than the vehicle's charging system can produce, the electrical consumption can discharge the battery and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system. WARNING
When installing any electrical accessory, be certain not to exceed the maximum amperage rating of the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the affected circuit being modified. Exceeding the maximum amperage can lead to electrical failures, which could result in death or serious injury. (00310a)
The front auxiliary lamps require up to 4.56 amps additional current from the electrical system when illuminated.
Kit Contents
This kit consists of a new wire harness and these instructions. The 10 Amp blade type mini fuse (red, Part No. 72462-00) and the shrink tube (Part No. 72249-94) are available.
PREPARATION
NOTE
For vehicles equipped with security siren:
  • 2007 and later: Verify that the Hands-Free Fob is present. Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION.
  • 2006 and earlier: Disarm the siren with the key fob.
For Vehicles With Main Fuse:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
  1. See the service manual and remove the main fuse.
For Vehicles With Main Circuit Breaker:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a)
  1. See the service manual to remove the seat and disconnect the negative (black) battery cable from the negative (-) battery terminal. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
  2. For ALL models: Turn the ignition key switch OFF if not already done. Proceed to INSTALLATION for the specific model motorcycle.
INSTALLATION
FLHR Models
1. Remove the headlamp and housing from the headlamp nacelle per the service manual.
NOTE
Electrical connectors are identified in the service manual by the numbers and letters shown here within brackets.
2. See Figure 1. Remove the hex nut and washer from the front of the auxiliary lamp toggle switch (1) on the back of the headlamp nacelle. Bring the toggle switch out through the headlamp opening, along with the four-way toggle switch connector [109] (2).
3. See the service manual appendix to unplug the connector halves. Locate the black wire (3) coming from cavity 1 of socket housing [109B] and trace it to the COMMON terminal of the toggle switch.
4. De-pin the black wire and terminal from cavity 1 of socket housing [109B].

5. Cut the terminals from the black wire of the auxiliary lamp independent control wire harness (4) and the black wire (3) from the COMMON terminal of the toggle switch.
6. Splice the black wires (7) using a sealed splice connector (red, Part No. 70585-93, purchased separately).
7. Bring the two-way fender tip lamp (5) connector [32] (a black connector with black and orange/white wires) out through the headlamp opening, Unplug the connector halves per the service manual appendix.
8. Plug the auxiliary lamp independent control wire harness (4) connectors into the mating fender tip lamp connector halves [32A] and [32B].
9. Install the auxiliary lamp toggle switch to the back of the headlamp nacelle with the hex nut and lockwasher. Tighten securely.
10. Tuck the toggle switch connector [109], fender tip lamp connector [32] and the auxiliary lamp independent control wire harness into the headlamp nacelle. Proceed to RETURN TO SERVICE.
FLSTC Models
NOTE
Electrical connectors are identified in the service manual by the numbers and letters shown here within brackets.
  1. Remove the hex nut and washer from the auxiliary lamp toggle switch (1) on the rear of the left fork leg cover panel. Bring the toggle switch out from behind the panel.
  2. See Figure 2. Unplug the insulated female terminal on the end of the low beam (yellow) wire (2) from the COMMON spade terminal on the back of the toggle switch. Protect the yellow wire terminal with the shrink tube (Part No. 72249-94) from the kit. This wire will not be reconnected.
  3. Plug the auxiliary lamp independent control wire harness (3) black wire and insulated female terminal into the toggle switch COMMON terminal.
  4. Locate the black two-way fender tip lamp (4) connector [32] (item 5, with black and orange/white wires) under the fuel tank, on the left side. Unplug the connector halves per the service manual appendix.
  5. Plug the auxiliary lamp independent control wire harness (3) connectors into the mating fender tip lamp connector halves [32A] and [32B]. Tuck the connectors behind the fuel tank rubber trim.
  6. Install the auxiliary lamp toggle switch to the rear of the left fork leg cover panel with the hex nut and lockwasher. Tighten securely.
WARNING
Be sure that steering is smooth and free without interference. Interference with steering could result in loss of vehicle control and death or serious injury. (00371a)
  • Be sure harness wires do not pull tight when handlebars are turned fully to left or right fork stops.
  1. Proceed to RETURN TO SERVICE.

RETURN TO SERVICE
NOTE
Verify that the ignition key switch is in the OFF position before installing the main fuse or attaching the negative battery cable.
1. Models with main fuse: See the service manual and install the main fuse. Models with main circuit breaker: See the service manual and attach the negative battery cable. Apply a light coat of Harley-Davidson electrical contact lubricant (Part No. 99861-02), petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to the negative battery terminal
2. Test the operation of the auxiliary lamps.
a. Turn the ignition key switch to IGNITION, but do not start the motorcycle. The low beam headlamp should turn ON.
b. Operate the auxiliary lamp switch ON and OFF. The auxiliary lamps should turn ON and OFF with switch operation.
c. Toggle the headlamp dimmer switch on the left handlebar control to HI to activate the high beam. Operate the auxiliary lamp switch ON and OFF. The auxiliary lamps should turn ON and OFF with switch operation.
d. Turn the ignition key switch to ACCESSORY. The headlamp should turn OFF. Operate the auxiliary lamp switch ON and OFF. The auxiliary lamps should turn ON and OFF with switch operation.
e. Turn the ignition key switch to OFF. Operate the auxiliary lamp switch ON and OFF. The auxiliary lamps should not illuminate.
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
