Installation Requirements
Electrical Contact Lube (Part No. 99861-02) or equivalent is required after battery cable disconnection. This item is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.

Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)

This instruction sheet refers to service manual information. A service manual for this year/model motorcycle is required for this installation. One is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
Electrical Overload
NOTICE
It is possible to overload the vehicle's charging system by adding too many electrical accessories. If the combined electrical accessories operating at any one time consume more electrical current than the vehicle's charging system can produce, the electrical consumption can discharge the battery and cause damage to the vehicle's electrical system. WARNING
When installing any electrical accessory, be certain not to exceed the maximum amperage rating of the fuse or circuit breaker protecting the affected circuit being modified. Exceeding the maximum amperage can lead to electrical failures, which could result in death or serious injury. (00310a)
This kit requires up to 4.5 amps more current from the brake lamp circuit while brakes are applied.

PREPARATION
Vehicles WITHOUT Security Siren
See the service manual to remove the seat. Retain the seat and all mounting hardware.
Vehicles With Main Fuse:
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, remove main fuse before proceeding. (00251b)
  1. See the service manual to remove the main fuse.
  2. Remove seat. Retain the seat and all mounting hardware.
Vehicles With Main Circuit Breaker:
1. See the service manual to remove the seat. Retain all seat mounting hardware.
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect battery cables (negative (-) cable first) before proceeding. (00307a)
WARNING
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a)
2. Disconnect both battery cables, negative battery cable first.
Vehicles WITH Security Siren
NOTE
  • For 2007 vehicles:
With security fob present, turn ignition switch ON. After system is disarmed, turn ignition switch OFF. IMMEDIATELY remove the main fuse per the service manual. See the warning under Vehicles WITHOUT security siren, Vehicles With Main Fuse, earlier in this section.
Remove seat. Retain the seat and all mounting hardware.
  • For 2000-2006 vehicles:
Disarm the siren with the key fob or security code. See the service manual to remove the seat. Retain the seat and all mounting hardware.
Remove the main fuse or battery cables. See the appropriate warning under Vehicles WITHOUT security siren, earlier in this section.
  • For ALL years:
Turn the ignition switch OFF unless already done.
INSTALLATION
NOTE
U.S. Models: Federal regulations specify a minimum separation between a red brake or tail lamp and red turn signals. To meet this requirement, discard the original equipment (OE) turn signal lamp supports. Install the supports from this kit.
1. See Figure 1 and the service manual to remove the tail lamp assembly. See Figure 2. Disconnect the tail lamp (1) and turn signal (2, 3) wiring.

2. See Figure 3. Remove two right side forward fender support screws (1) and the spacer (12). Save hardware for installation.
3. Remove the right fender support screw (2) and washer (3) under the fender near the rear of the support. Remove the screw (4) and washer (5) in the middle of the fender support. Save hardware for installation.
4. Remove the screw (6), washer (7) and right rear turn signal (9) per the service manual.
NOTE
Record wire routing and cable strap locations before removal.
5. Carefully remove the assembled fender support (8), turn signal lamp (9) and lamp support (10). Remove the turn signal wiring through the elongated hole (11) in the fender. Discard the lamp support and screw (6). Save the turn signal lamp and washer (7) for installation.

6. Perform Steps 2 - 5 for the left fender support and signal lamp assembly.
7. See the service manual appendix. Remove both socket terminals and wire leads from one rear turn signal two-way Multilock connector. Remove the turn signal and lamp support from the fender support.
8. See Figure 3. Get a new, longer turn signal lamp support (10) and screw (6) from the kit. Route the wiring from the turn signal lamp (9) through the lamp support and the elongated hole in the fender support. Install the screw through the fender support, lamp support and into the turn signal lamp. Tighten the screw securely.
NOTE
Right turn signal connectors are black. Left turn signal connectors are white.
9. See the service manual appendix and Figure 4. Face the connector (1) in the direction of the arrow. With the lock button (2) facing up, install the Black wire (3) socket terminal into the left cavity of the socket housing until it clicks. Insert the Brown wire (right side) or Violet wire (left side) terminal into the right cavity.

10. Perform Steps 7 - 9 for the opposite-side fender support and signal lamp.
11. See Figure 3. Get one spacer (12) and two socket head cap screws (1) saved in Step 2. Align the spacer (12) with the forward hole, inside one fender support (8). Install the screws through the two holes at the front of the fender support into the holes in the frame. Finger tighten.
12. Get the screw (2) and washer (3) removed from the rear of the fender support in Step 3. Get the screw (4) and washer (5) removed from the middle of the fender support. Install the screws and washers from inside the fender into the fender support. Make sure that the fender support does not bind or pinch the turn signal wiring. Tighten the screws to 16.3–20.3 N·m (12–15 ft-lbs).
13. Return to the socket head cap screws at the front of the support. Tighten to 19–21.7 N·m (14–16 ft-lbs)-.
14. Perform Steps 11 - 13 for the opposite-side fender support and signal lamp assembly.
15. See Figure 2. Insert the right (Black two-way) turn signal connector into the right (Black) turn signal harness connector (3) until it snaps. Insert the left (White two-way) turn signal connector into the left (White) turn signal harness connector (2) until it snaps.
16. Connect the tail/stop lamp harness connector (White four-way) to the vehicle harness connector (1) (Black four-way).
17. See Figure 5. Align the tail/stop lamp (1) with the fender cutout as shown. Insert the upper spring into place. With index finger, push upward slightly on the lower spring while firmly pressing the assembly toward the fender. The assembly is secure when the upper and lower springs "click".

18. Locate the notch in the original amber rear turn signal lens. Insert a coin or a flat-blade screwdriver into the notch. Carefully twist the coin or screwdriver until the lens pops out of the rear turn signal housing. Repeat for the other rear turn signal lens.
19. Get one of the red turn signal lenses (2) from the kit. Snap a red lens into the rear turn signal housing. Repeat for the other lens.
20. See Figure 6. Locate the rear wiring harness coming out of the rear fender in the area underneath the seat. Disconnect the rear fender wiring connector (1) from the main harness connector.

21. See Figure 7. Get the turn signal module (1) from the kit. Mate the module connectors to the connectors from Step 20. Snap into place.
NOTE
Select a location to secure the module:
  • Make sure that connectors and module are not bound when the seat is reinstalled.
  • Make sure that wiring is not pinched when the seat is reinstalled.
  • Make sure to maintain clearance between the wiring harness and the rear wheel underneath the fender.
22. Use cable straps (5) from the kit to secure the module, connector and wiring in the area underneath the seat.
COMPLETION
NOTE
Verify that the ignition switch is OFF before installing the main fuse or attaching the battery cables.
Vehicles With Main Circuit Breaker
WARNING
Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a)
  1. See the service manual to attach the battery cables (red positive cable first). Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to battery terminals.
Vehicles With Main Fuse
  1. See the service manual to install the main fuse.
ALL models
WARNING
Be sure that all lights and switches operate properly before operating motorcycle. Low visibility of rider can result in death or serious injury. (00316a)
  1. ALL models: Turn the ignition switch ON, but do not start the motorcycle. Check for proper lamp function:
  • With ignition switch ON, the left and right turn signal lamps and the center tail lamp are illuminated.
  • With brake lever or brake pedal actuation, the left and right turn signal lamps and the center tail lamp brightens.
  • With left or right turn signal actuation, the correct vehicle turn signal flashes.
  • With hazard warning (emergency four-way flasher) actuation, both turn signals flash.
WARNING
After installing seat, pull upward on seat to be sure it is locked in position. While riding, a loose seat can shift causing loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00070b)
