1. | See Figure 1. Support the right-side front brake caliper, and remove the upper (1) and lower (2) caliper mounting bolts. Save the bolts for re-installation. | |||||||||||||||
2. | See Figure 2. Loosely install the right-side outer brake caliper cover (1) to the right-side fork slider and caliper with the upper (2) and lower (3) caliper mounting bolts (longer bolt on top) just removed. | |||||||||||||||
3. | Install a split rubber grommet (4) over the brake line (5), just above the caliper banjo fitting. DO NOT remove the brake line. Insert the grommet into the semicircular cutout in the outer caliper cover. |

4. | Tighten the lower caliper mounting bolt to 37.9–51.5 N·m (28–38 ft-lbs). Tighten the upper mounting bolt to 37.9–51.5 N·m (28–38 ft-lbs). NOTE It may be necessary to rotate the brake line for optimal positioning within the grommet. If so, refer to the Service Manual for your year and model vehicle for proper torque values and bleeding procedure. | |||||||||||||||
5. | See Figure 3. Install the inner brake caliper cover (2) under the outer cover (1) while simultaneously inserting the rubber grommet (3) into the corresponding cutout. | |||||||||||||||
6. | Install three screws (4) with wave washers (5) through the outer cover and into the inner cover as shown. | |||||||||||||||
WARNING After repairing the brake system, test brakes at low speed. If brakes are not operating properly, testing at high speeds can cause loss of control, which could result in death or serious injury. (00289a) | ||||||||||||||||
7. | Repeat steps 1 through 6 on the left side of the vehicle. |
