This instruction sheet references Service Manual information. A Service Manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson Dealer.
Kit Contents
See Figure 1 and Table 1.
NOTE
The button head screws (2) provided in this kit are intended for use with cam cover plate. To use these screws on an original equipment cam cover plate, it will be necessary to increase the full thread depth of the cam cover mounting holes (in the cam cover) to approximately 0.500 inches using a #8-32 tap.
INSTALLATION
WARNING
To prevent accidental vehicle start-up, which could cause death or serious injury, disconnect negative (-) battery cable before proceeding. (00048a)
WARNING
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a)
1. Disconnect the battery, negative (-) battery cable first, following the instructions in the appropriate Service Manual
2. Follow the procedure found in the appropriate Service Manual to remove the hardware from the cam cover and the cam cover plate.
3. Consult the appropriate Service Manual for screw locations, torque values and recommended gasket replacement.
WARNING
Connect positive (+) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00068a)
4. Connect the battery cables, positive (+) battery cable first, following the instructions in the appropriate Service Manual.
