1. | Install the detachable sissy bar upright kit following the instructions in that kit. | |
2. | If necessary, cut the clear plastic rain seal away from the three pre-cut screw holes (C) in the backrest pad (1) to prevent the plastic from catching in the threads. | |
3. | Insert the spacers (3) into the pre-cut holes. | |
4. | See Figure 1. Position the backrest pad (1) against the detachable sissy bar upright (A), inserting the three spacers through the slots in the sissy bar tabs (B). | |
5. | Place the mounting bracket (2) against the spacers, lining up the holes. NOTE To avoid misalignment and cross threading, start all three screws into the backrest before fully tightening any of them. | |
6. | Insert a screw (4) from the kit through one of the spacers, and carefully thread it part way into the mating hole in the backrest pad. Repeat for the other two screws. NOTE Spacers must seat squarely against the mounting bracket. | |
7. | After all three screws have been started in the holes, continue tightening the screws, ensuring that the spacers are seated squarely against the mounting bracket. Tighten screws to 0.8–1.1 N·m (7–10 in-lbs). |
