INSTALLATION
NOTE
The ideal tape application temperature range is 70°F to 100°F (21°C to 38°C). Initial tape application to surfaces at temperatures below 50°F (10°C) is not recommended.
1. XL Shock Bolt Covers: See Figure 1. Place a shock bolt cap into each of the shock covers to assess if it sits flush in the cover. If it does not, the shock bolt will have to be loosened and the alignment of the washer and cover adjusted so that all parts are centered on the bolt. Support the vehicle on a center stand. Remove the upper fastener, apply 2-3 drops of Loctite 243 Medium Strength Threadlocker and Sealant (blue) to the threads. Reassemble the shock cover stack and install the fastener into the frame boss. Make sure that the washer and cover are centered on the fastener and tighten to 61–68 N·m (45–50 ft-lbs). Repeat for opposite side if needed.
2. Clean the mounting screw, washer and the bottom of the cap (2) with isopropyl alcohol.
3. Attach the large adhesive ring (3) to the cap and using the tip of a small blade lift the edge of the red liner on the adhesive ring. Carefully remove the liner and fit the cap (2) into the stud cover (A). A needle nose pliers may be used to grip the recesses in the cap during installation. Press and hold the cap firmly in place to seat (full bond strength will be achieved after 24 hours). Install the bar and shield medallion (1) to the center of the cap.
4. Repeat for opposite side.
5. Dyna Shock Bolt Covers: See Figure 2. Remove acorn nut and discard.
6. Install two washers (5) above the existing washer (D) on the mounting stud (C) and screw nut (4) to the stud. Make sure that the washers and shock cover are centered on the stud. Tighten nut to 40.7–54.2 N·m (30–40 ft-lbs).
7. Clean the inside of the cap, the nut, and washers with isopropyl alcohol. Install a small adhesive ring (3) to the nut and using the tip of a small blade lift the edge of the red liner on the adhesive ring. Carefully remove the liner and fit the cap into the stud cover (A). A needle nose pliers may be used to grip the recesses in the cap during installation. Press the cap firmly into place then install the bar and shield medallion (1) to the cap (full bond strength will be achieved after 24 hours).
8. Repeat for the opposite side.
