Installation Requirements
Installation of this kit requires:
  • Loctite® 565 Thread Sealant (Part No. 99818-97)
  • Hylomar Gasket and Thread Sealant® gasket sealer
NOTE
The oil pan screws in this kit have a lock patch. If the oil pan is removed during future engine service, clean the screw threads and apply Loctite® 243 Threadlocker and Sealant (Part No. 94759-99) during oil pan installation.
WARNING
Rider and passenger safety depend upon the correct installation of this kit. Use the appropriate service manual procedures. If the procedure is not within your capabilities or you do not have the correct tools, have a Harley-Davidson dealer perform the installation. Improper installation of this kit could result in death or serious injury. (00333b)
NOTE
This instruction sheet references service manual information. A service manual for your model motorcycle is required for this installation and is available from a Harley-Davidson dealer.
REMOVAL
  1. See the service manual. Remove the rear wheel, left muffler and oil pan.
INSTALLATION
1. Remove and discard two black screws that hold the upper and lower oil pans together during shipping.
NOTE
Do not remove or loosen the fasteners that attach the baffle plate to the upper oil pan or damage to the fastener or upper oil pan may occur.
2. Clean and examine transmission and oil pan flanges of the upper and lower oil pans.
3. See Figure 2. Apply a thin coat of Hylomar Gasket and Thread Sealant® to the top flange of the upper oil pan (1).
4. Place gasket (2) on upper oil pan (1) flange. Allow sealer to dry until tacky.
5. Position upper oil pan with gasket on bottom of transmission. Loosely install fasteners (3).
6. Verify that the gasket is properly positioned and tighten oil pan fasteners (3) to 14.9–17.6 N·m (132–156 in-lbs) following sequence shown in Figure 1.
7. If removed, install tapered plug (9) using Loctite 565 Thread Sealant. Tighten to 24.4–29.8 N·m (18–22 ft-lbs).
8. Apply a thin coat of Hylomar Gasket and Thread Sealant® to the lower oil pan (7) flange.
9. Place gasket (4) on lower oil pan (7) flange. Allow sealer to dry until tacky.
10. Position lower oil pan with gasket on bottom of upper oil pan and loosely install fasteners (6).
11. Loosely install two fasteners (5).
12. Verify that the dowels are engaged and the gasket is properly positioned. Tighten lower oil pan fasteners (5) and (6) to 14.9–17.6 N·m (132–156 in-lbs) following sequence shown in Figure 1.

13. If removed, install drain plugs (8). Tighten to 19–28.5 N·m (14–21 ft-lbs).
14. See the service manual. Install exhaust cross-over pipe hanger bracket and tighten fasteners to 9.5–14.9 N·m (84–132 in-lbs).
15. See service manual. Install exhaust cross-over pipe and left muffler.
16. See service manual. Install rear wheel.
17. See service manual. Add fluids.
a. Add transmission fluid and check level. Transmission fluid capacity is the same as the original equipment (OE) oil pan.
b. Install engine oil filter. Add engine oil. The oil capacity increases by approximately 0.95 L (1.5 qt). Initially, add 3.8 L (4 qt) of engine oil.
c. See the service manual. Check engine oil level using cold and hot oil level checks. Add oil if necessary.
