Checking Headlamp Alignment
  1. Check tire pressure. Refer to Specifications → Specifications.
  2. Adjust rear shocks for the rider and intended load. See Before Riding.
  3. Fill fuel tank or add an equal amount of ballast.
  4. NOTE
    Choose a wall in minimum light.
  5. See Figure 1. Park the motorcycle in a line (1) perpendicular to the wall.
  6. Position motorcycle with front axle 7.6 m (25 ft) from wall.
  7. Draw a vertical line (2) on the wall.
  8. Point the front wheel straight forward at the wall.
  9. Measure the distance (4) from the floor to the center of the high beam bulb.
  10. Activate high beam. Verify headlamp alignment.
  11. Adjust if necessary.

Adjusting Headlamp
Set Horizontal Adjustment
1. XG500, XG750: Remove speed screen.
a. See Figure 2. Remove speed screen screws (1) and washers (2).
b. Pull speed screen away from upper speed screen bracket (4).
c. Pull speed screen away from lower speed screen bracket (5).
2. XG750A: Remove speed screen.
a. See Figure 3. Pull speed screen (2) away from speed screen bracket (1).
3. See Figure 4. Loosen horizontal adjustment locknut (1).
4. Direct light beam straight ahead.
5. Tighten horizontal adjustment locknut.
Torque: 27.5–32.5 N·m (20–24 ft-lbs) Headlamp horizontal locknut
NOTE
Perform all adjustments before installing speed screen.
6. See Figure 3. Align posts of speed screen (3) with grommets.
7. XG500, XG750: Install speed screen.
a. Install speed screen onto lower speed screen bracket (5).
b. Align speed screen to upper speed screen bracket (4).
c. Install washers (2) and screws (1).
Torque: 2.3–3.3 N·m (20–29 in-lbs) Speed screen screw
8. XG750A: Install speed screen.
a. See Figure 3. Align speed screen post to grommets and push.
Set Vertical Adjustment
1. See Figure 4. Loosen locknut (1) for vertical adjustment bolt (2)
2. Aim headlamp at horizontal line on wall.
3. Tighten vertical adjustment locknut.
Torque: 20.6–25.5 N·m (15–19 ft-lbs) Headlamp vertical adjustment locknut

Replacing Headlamp or Position Bulb
WARNING
The automatic-on headlamp feature provides increased visibility of the rider to other motorists. Be sure headlamp is on at all times. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00030b)
1. XG500, XG750: Remove speed screen.
a. See Figure 2. Remove speed screen screws (1) and washers (2).
b. Pull speed screen away from upper speed screen bracket (4).
c. Pull speed screen away from lower speed screen bracket (5).
2. XG750A: Remove speed screen.
a. See Figure 3. Pull speed screen (2) away from speed screen bracket (1).
3. Remove main fuse. See Service Procedures → Fuses and Relays.
4. See Figure 5. Remove screws (6).
5. Pull lens assembly (5) from headlamp housing.
6. Disconnect electrical connectors from headlamp and position bulbs.
7. Loosen screw (2).
8. Remove retainer (3).
9. Remove headlamp bulb (4).
10. Remove position bulb (7).
11. Install new headlamp or position bulb.
12. Install retainer (3).
13. Tighten screw (2).
14. Connect electrical connectors to headlamp and position bulbs.
15. Attach lens assembly (5) to headlamp housing.
16. Install screws (6).
17. XG500, XG750: Install speed screen.
a. Install speed screen onto lower speed screen bracket (5).
b. Align speed screen to upper speed screen bracket (4).
c. Install washers (2) and screws (1). .
Torque: 2.3–3.3 N·m (20–29 in-lbs) Speed screen screw
18. XG750A: Install speed screen.
a. Align speed screen post to grommets and push.
19. Install main fuse. See Service Procedures → Fuses and Relays.
WARNING
Be sure that all lights and switches operate properly before operating motorcycle. Low visibility of rider can result in death or serious injury. (00316a)
20. Check operation of all lamps.
