WARNING
Be sure that no lubricants or fluids get on tires, wheels or brakes when changing fluid. Traction can be adversely affected, which could result in loss of control of the motorcycle and death or serious injury. (00047d)
NOTICE
Do not switch lubricant brands indiscriminately because some lubricants interact chemically when mixed. Use of inferior lubricants can damage the engine. (00184a)
NOTE
The chin spoiler can be removed for easier access to the oil filter. See Care and Cleaning → Chin Spoiler.
The oil filter is on the oil filter mount in front of the engine.
NOTICE
Use Harley-Davidson oil filter wrench for filter removal. This tool can prevent damage to crankshaft position sensor and/or sensor cable. (00192b)
  1. See Figure 2. Remove the oil filter using the OIL FILTER WRENCH (Part Number:HD-44067).
  2. Clean the oil filter mount flange of old gasket material. The surface must be smooth and free of any debris or old gasket material.

Twin Cam 110B engines require the premium oil filter (Part No. 63798-99A Chrome or Part No. 63731-99A Black).
  1. See Figure 3. Apply a thin film of oil to gasket contact surface on mounting plate (1) and oil filter gasket (2).
  2. Screw filter onto adapter (3) until gasket contacts plate surface. Apply another 3/4-1 full turn.
Fill Oil Tank
NOTE
Use the proper grade of oil for the lowest temperature expected before the next oil change. Refer to Maintenance and Lubrication → Engine Lubrication: Synthetic Oil → Recommended Engine Oils.
1. Fill oil tank with no more than 1.89 L (2.0 qt) of oil.
NOTICE
Do not overfill oil. Doing so can result in oil carryover to the air cleaner leading to equipment damage and/or equipment malfunction. (00190b)
2. Start engine and carefully check for oil leaks around drain plug and oil filter.
3. See Maintenance and Lubrication → Checking Oil Level → Engine Oil Level. Bring engine to operating temperature. Add oil to bring level to full hot (1) on dipstick.
