WARNING
Shift transmission to neutral before starting engine to prevent accidental movement, which could result in death or serious injury. (00044a)
NOTICE
The engine should be allowed to run slowly for 15-30 seconds. This will allow the engine to warm up and let oil reach all surfaces needing lubrication. Failure to comply can result in engine damage. (00563b)
NOTE
Rolling the throttle before starting the motorcycle is unnecessary
  1. See Figure 1. With the security system fob present, turn the OFF/RUN switch (1) to RUN position. Do not roll the throttle.
  2. NOTE
When ignition is ON the check engine light will light and stay on until engine is started. Service would be required when the engine is started and the check engine light stays on.
The fuel pump may run for a few seconds to prime the fuel system prior to starting.
  3. Raise the jiffy stand (required on international models, unless transmission is in neutral).
  4. Squeeze the clutch lever in against the hand grip. Shift transmission to neutral.
  5. NOTE
To activate the starting system, the clutch interlock circuitry requires that the clutch be disengaged. The clutch lever must be pulled in against the left handlebar grip and/or the transmission must be shifted to the neutral position (with the green neutral lamp lit). Apply the brake to prevent movement.
  6. Press the starter switch (2) to start the motorcycle.
  7. When the engine has started, you can operate your motorcycle as you normally would after raising the jiffy stand.
NOTE
The ABS indicator lamp remains on until vehicle is moving approximately 5 km/h (3 mph).
