WARNING

The automatic-on headlamp feature provides increased visibility of the rider to other motorists. Be sure headlamp is on at all times. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00030b)

Refer to Table 1. The ignition/headlamp key switch controls electrical functions of the motorcycle.

See the YOUR OWNER'S MANUAL section at the front of this book. Be sure to record all your key numbers in the space provided.

NOTE

The lamps work when the switch is in the IGNITION position, as required by law in some localities.

NOTICE

Protect your vehicle against theft. Failure to lock the motorcycle after parking could result in theft and/or equipment damage. (00151b)

WARNING

Do not operate vehicle with forks locked. Locking the forks restricts the vehicle's turning ability, which could result in death or serious injury. (00035a)

NOTICE

Do not lubricate barrel locks with petroleum based lubricants or graphite. Inoperative locks may result. (00152a)

All Models Except FXCW and FXCWC

See Figure 1. The ignition switch is located on the instrument panel on top of the tank. Rotate switch to desired position. Refer to Table 1 for ignition switch functions.

The switch can be locked in the OFF or ACC position. To lock the switch, raise the switch cover, insert key, and turn counterclockwise to LOCK position. To unlock the switch, insert key and turn clockwise to UNLOCK position. Remove the key.

NOTE

Harley-Davidson recommends removing key from ignition switch before operating motorcycle. If you do not remove key, it can fall out during operation.

FXCW and FXCWC Models

See Figure 2. The ignition switch is located on the left side of the vehicle between the engine cylinders.

To operate, insert key and turn to desired position. The key can be removed while in the OFF or ACC positions. Refer to Table 1 for ignition switch functions.

Use only the ignition key in the switch when riding the motorcycle. Riding with a key attached to a keychain or fob can damage the cosmetic surface of the ignition coil.

*International models have an additional function - position lamp and tail lamp are also on.
