Fuse Replacement
NOTICE
Always use replacement fuses that are of the correct type and amperage rating. Use of incorrect fuses can result in damage to electrical systems. (00222a)
If replacing a fuse does not correct the problem or if a fuse is repeatedly blown, see a Harley-Davidson dealer.
1. | Turn off the ignition. | |
2. | Remove seat. | |
3. | Remove top cover. | |
4. | See Figure 1. Remove the suspect fuse. | |
5. | Inspect the element. If the element is burned or separated, replace the fuse with an automotive type ATO fuse with the same Amp rating. | |
6. | Align fuse block cover with retaining guide. Slide the fuse block cover until tab latches. | |
7. | Press the fuse block into the recess in the oil tank. | |
8. | Close left side cover. | |
Main Fuse

Figure 1. The 40 A main fuse can be removed to disconnect power from the electrical system (except starter motor/solenoid).
To prevent a security siren from sounding, turn on the ignition with the hands-free fob present to disarm the security system before removing the main fuse.
