WARNING
Shift transmission to neutral before starting engine to prevent accidental movement, which could result in death or serious injury. (00044a)
NOTICE
The engine should be allowed to run slowly for 15-30 seconds. This will allow the engine to warm up and let oil reach all surfaces needing lubrication. Failure to comply can result in engine damage. (00563b)
  1. Turn ignition on. Do not roll the throttle.
    1. Keyed Ignition: Turn the ignition switch to the ON position.
    2. Keyless Ignition: Bring an assigned fob within range.
  2. See Figure 1. Turn the OFF/RUN switch to the run (1) position.
  3. NOTE
    • When ignition is ON the check engine light will light and stay on until engine is started or will light for four seconds and go out. Service would be required when the engine is started and the check engine light stays on.
    • The fuel pump may run for a few seconds to prime the fuel system prior to starting.
  4. Squeeze in the clutch lever.
  5. NOTE
    To activate the starting system, squeeze in the clutch lever and/or shift the transmission to neutral.
  6. Raise the jiffy stand (HDI).
  7. NOTE
    Do not roll the throttle before starting. Rolling the throttle before starting the motorcycle is unnecessary.
  8. Press start (2).
  9. When the engine has started, you can operate your motorcycle as you normally would after raising the jiffy stand.
