2. | Models with sirens: Turn the ignition switch OFF before connecting the battery. | |
NOTICE Do not over-tighten bolts on battery terminals. Use recommended torque values. Over-tightening battery terminal bolts could result in damage to battery terminals. (00216a) | ||
3. | Insert bolt through battery positive cable (red) into threaded hole of battery positive terminal (2). | |
4. | Tighten bolt to 6.8–7.9 N·m (60–70 in-lbs). | |
5. | Insert bolt through battery negative cable (black) into threaded hole of battery negative terminal (1). | |
6. | Tighten bolt to 6.8–7.9 N·m (60–70 in-lbs). | |
NOTICE Keep battery clean and lightly coat terminals with petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion. Failure to do so could result in damage to battery terminals. (00217a) | ||
7. | Apply a light coat of petroleum jelly or corrosion retardant material to battery terminals. | |
8. | Install battery side cover. | |
9. | See Figure 1. Install side cover screw (3). Tighten to 2.26–4.52 N·m (20–40 in-lbs). | |
