Drain the chaincase lubricant and refill with fresh lubricant at proper intervals. Refer to Maintenance Scheduling → Service Records.
NOTICE
Do not overfill the primary chaincase with lubricant. Overfilling can cause rough clutch engagement, incomplete disengagement, clutch drag and/or difficulty in finding neutral at engine idle. (00199b)
Changing Chaincase Lubricant
| 1. | Run motorcycle until engine oil reaches minimum temperature. Temperature: 93.4 °C (200 °F) | |

| 2. | See Figure 1. Using a T27 TORX drive head, remove five screws (3) (with captive washers) to free clutch inspection cover (2) from primary chaincase cover. | |
| 3. | See Figure 2. Remove magnetic drain plug at bottom of inner primary chaincase cover. Drain primary chaincase. NOTE Dispose of lubricant in accordance with local regulations. | |
| 4. | Clean drain plug. If plug has accumulated debris, inspect the condition of the chaincase components. | |
| 5. | Install new O-ring on drain plug. | |
| 6. | Install drain plug back into inner primary chaincase cover. Tighten. Torque: 19–28 N·m (14–21 ft-lbs) Primary chaincase drain plug | |

| 8. | Install clutch inspection cover and new gasket: a. Thoroughly wipe all lubricant from cover mounting surface and groove in chaincase. b. Position gasket in groove in primary chaincase cover. Press each of the nubs on gasket into the groove. The nubs retain the seal in position. c. Insert screw (with captive washer) through clutch inspection cover. Thread it into the top cover screw hole. d. Start the remaining four screws (with captive washers). e. Using a T27 TORX drive head, alternately tighten screws. Torque: 9.5–12.2 N·m (84–108 in-lbs) Clutch inspection cover screws |
