| 1. | Run motorcycle until engine is at normal operating temperature. | |
| 2. | Turn off engine. | |
| 3. | See Figure 1. Remove the engine oil drain plug. Discard O-ring. | |
| 4. | Allow oil to drain completely. Dispose of waste properly. | |
| 5. | Remove radiator shroud. See SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE → Cleaning Radiator. | |
| 6. | See Figure 2. Remove the oil filter using OIL FILTER WRENCH (Part Number:HD-51453). | |
| 7. | Discard filter. | |
| 8. | Clean the oil filter mount flange of any old gasket material. | |
| 9. | Lubricate gasket of new oil filter with clean engine oil. NOTE Do NOT use oil filter wrench for installation. | |
| 10. | Install new oil filter (2) on filter mount (3). Hand-tighten oil filter one-half to three-quarters of a turn after gasket initially contacts the filter mounting surface. | |
| 11. | Install engine oil drain plug and new O-ring. Tighten to 20–25 N·m (15–18 ft-lbs). | |
NOTICE Do not overfill oil. Doing so can result in oil carryover to the air cleaner leading to equipment damage and/or equipment malfunction. (00190b) | ||
| 12. | Initially add 2.4 L (2.5 qt) of engine oil. See Service Procedures → Engine Lubrication. | |
| 13. | Perform engine oil level cold check. See SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE → Checking Engine Oil Level. | |
| 14. | Start engine and carefully check for oil leaks around drain plug and oil filter. | |
| 15. | Install radiator shroud. See SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE → Cleaning Radiator. | |
| 16. | Perform engine oil level hot check. See SCHEDULED MAINTENANCE → Checking Engine Oil Level. | |
| 17. | Add more oil as required. |
