Emergency responders should follow their standard procedures for vehicle accidents.
Look for identifiers indicating the vehicle is an electric powered motorcycle. Identifiers may be hidden or damaged in a crash or fire. Look for high voltage warning labels or orange wiring and cables to identify vehicle as an electric vehicle.
Inspect the vehicle for signs of damage such as exposed wiring, damaged connectors or damaged housings of any components.
Inspect battery for signs of sparks, smoke, or bubbling noises. Smoke and fumes could be harmful and/or flamable. If battery internals are exposed and/or leaking they should be considered corrosive and/ or flammable. Use full PPE and SCBA precautions.
NOTE
A battery temperature more than 65 °C (150 °F) above ambient temperature may indicate a damaged or overheating battery.
See Figure 1. Check battery for an increase in thermal temperature. This is a sign of a damaged battery that may be overheating and could result in a delayed fire. Avoid contact with a damaged battery as a shock hazard may exist.
