WARNING
The automatic-on headlamp feature provides increased visibility of the rider to other motorists. Be sure headlamp is on at all times. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00030b)
See Figure 1. The ignition switch controls electrical functions of the motorcycle.
See the CUSTOMER SERVICE ASSISTANCE section at the beginning of this manual before the TABLE OF CONTENTS. Be sure to record all your key numbers in the space provided.
NOTICE
Protect your vehicle against theft. Failure to lock the motorcycle after parking could result in theft and/or equipment damage. (00151b)

Do not lubricate barrel locks with petroleum based lubricants or graphite. Inoperative locks may result. (00152a)
Lock/Unlock Switch
When the ignition switch is locked, it cannot be rotated to a different position. The ignition switch can only be locked in the OFF or ACCESSORY position. The switch cannot be locked in the IGNITION position.
  1. Lift the switch cover.
  2. See Figure 1. Insert the key and turn counterclockwise to lock the switch. To unlock the switch, turn the key clockwise.
  3. Remove the key and close the switch cover.

See Figure 1. After the switch has been unlocked, it can be rotated to any position.

Refer to Table 1 for ignition switch operation.
NOTE
  • Harley-Davidson recommends removing key from ignition switch and fork lock before operating motorcycle. If you do not remove key, it can fall out during operation.
  • The key can be removed while the switch is in any position.
  • The lamps illuminate when the switch is in the IGNITION position, as required by law in some localities.
