WARNING

The automatic-on headlamp feature provides increased visibility of the rider to other motorists. Be sure headlamp is on at all times. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00030b)

See Figure 1. The ignition switch controls electrical functions of the motorcycle.

WARNING

Do not operate vehicle with forks locked. Locking the forks restricts the vehicle's turning ability, which could result in death or serious injury. (00035a)

NOTICE

Protect your vehicle against theft. Failure to lock the motorcycle after parking could result in theft and/or equipment damage. (00151b)

NOTICE

Do not lubricate barrel locks with petroleum based lubricants or graphite. Inoperative locks may result. (00152a)

NOTICE

Turn the Ignition/Light Key Switch knob to the FORK LOCK position (FLHTP) or OFF position (FLHP) before locking. Leaving the key in the ACC position will keep the instrument lights on and result in a discharged battery. (00153b)

NOTICE

Do not switch lubricant brands indiscriminately because some lubricants interact chemically when mixed. Use of inferior lubricants can damage the engine. (00184a)

FLHP: Push key in and turn it counterclockwise.
FLHTP: Push key in and turn clockwise.
Remove key.

NOTE

Harley-Davidson recommends removing key from ignition/fork lock before operating motorcycle. If you do not remove key, it can fall out during operation.
ACCESS/ACCESSORY - Accessories and hazard warning flasher can be turned on. Instrument lamps are on. Brake lamp and horn can be activated. Key may be removed.
The lamps illuminate when the switch is in the IGNITION position, as required by law in some localities.

FLHTP	Key lock	LOCK	Locks the switch in either the FORK LOCK or ACCESSORY switch position. Remove the key for security.
	Key lock	UNLOCK	Unlocks the switch. Unlocked, the switch can be rotated to any of the 4 positions. To prevent loss when riding, remove the key.
	Switch	FORK LOCK	Turn the steering head to full left position. Rotate the switch to FORK LOCK. Insert the key, press down on the switch and turn key to LOCK position to lock the fork. To unlock the fork, insert and rotate the key to the UNLOCK position and the switch pops up.
		OFF	When switch is in OFF position, the ignition, lamps and accessories are off.
		IGNITION	When the switch is in the IGNITION position, the motorcycle can be started and all lamps and accessories will operate.
		ACCESSORY	When switch is in the ACCESSORY position, all lamps and accessories operate but the engine cannot be started. The switch can be locked in ACCESSORY position.
FLHP	Key lock	Switch is locked or unlocked by lifting switch cover, inserting key and turning key counterclockwise to lock, clockwise to unlock. Key may be removed in any position.
	Switch	OFF	Ignition, lamps and accessories are off.
		ACCESSORY	Accessories are on. Hazard warning flashers can be left on. Instrument lamps are on. Brake lamp and horn can be activated.
		IGNITION	Ignition, lamps and accessories are on.
