NOTE
Not all updates are supported by Firmware Over The Air (FOTA). Updates not supported by FOTA will use the USB update procedure.
Update through USB
Harley-Davidson periodically provides software updates for the infotainment system on www.harley-davidson.com.
For instructions on updating software through the USB port, refer to Infotainment Control Unit (IFCU) Support Resources on www.harley-davidson.com.
Update firmware over the air (FOTA)
FOTA is a cloud-based method to update the Skyline OS software as needed using the vehicles connection to a secure 5G WiFi network.
See Figure 1. When vehicle receives a FOTA update, the Infotainment Control Unit (IFCU) displays a selection window (1) and a software update icon (2). The rider has the option to Start or Delay the update.
NOTE
  • WiFi connection must be secure. (WiFi network requires password.)
  • WiFi must be 5G.
  • FOTA bundle updates are downloaded while the vehicle is in normal use, in the background, as long as there is a WiFi connection. The update prompt will not be offered until the bundle is fully downloaded.
  • A FOTA update can only be installed when vehicle is in accessory mode. System will not install an update while in motion or Ignition is ON.
  • Battery should be fully charged before starting the update install.
To Update the Skyline OS Software
1. Verify vehicle is powered ON in accessory or ignition mode.
2. Confirm the IFCU is connected to a Secure 5G WiFi network.
3. See Figure 1. If an update is available a selection window will be present.
4. To manually check for Skyline OS update, navigate to Settings>System>System Info>Product Information.
5. Select START or DELAY on the selection window.
NOTE
  • If download is started, status can be checked by pressing the download icon on the touchscreen.
  • DOWNLOAD PAUSE- If WiFi signal is lost, the download will pause and the download paused icon will be displayed.
a. START- Download will start and ICON in upper right corner will change from a bell to the download started ICON.
b. DELAY- Download will not start, ICON in upper right corner will remain a bell. The selection window will return on every ignition cycle.
6. After download is complete an on screen message will confirm.
7. Place vehicle into Accessory to continue with update installation.
8. Select START or DELAY after NEW SOFTWARE READY TO INSTALL,selection window appears.
a. START- Taken to a final instructional screen with START UPDATE button.
b. DELAY- Update will not start, icon in upper right corner will remain a bell. The selection window will return on every ignition cycle.
9. After the Skyline OS restarts a message will be given to confirm new software version. Press OK to clear the message or wait 10 seconds for message to self clear.
