Check Alignment
  1. Check tire pressure.
  2. Fill fuel tank or add an equal amount of ballast.
  3. Adjust rear shocks for the rider and intended load.
    4. NOTE
    Choose a wall in minimum light.
  4. See Figure 1. Park the motorcycle on a line (1) perpendicular to the wall.
  5. Position motorcycle so the front axle is 7.6 m (25 ft) from the wall.
  6. Draw a vertical line (2) on the wall.
    7. NOTE
    Because a riders weight compresses the suspension, seat a person approximately the same weight as the rider.
  7. With the motorcycle loaded normally, measure the headlamp height.
    1. Point the front wheel straight forward.
    2. Halogen headlamp: Measure the distance (4) from the floor to the center of the headlamp.
    3. LED headlamp: Measure the distance (4) from the floor to the center of the low beam (upper) lens.
  8. Halogen alignment (6):
    1. Draw a horizontal line (5) through the vertical line on the wall 53.3 mm (2 in) lower than the measured centerline.
    2. The headlamp is aligned when the center of the high beam hot spot is located over the intersection of the lines.
    3. Adjust as necessary.
    9. NOTE
    The upper lens is low beam on LED headlamps.
  9. LED alignment (7):
    1. Draw a horizontal line (5) through the vertical line on the wall at the measured low beam lens centerline.
    2. The headlamp is aligned when the top of light beam hot spot is located as shown with headlamp set to low beam.
    3. Adjust as necessary.

Adjust Alignment
1. Point the front wheel straight forward.
2. See Figure 2. Loosen horizontal adjustment screw (2). Tilt headlamp left or right to direct light beam straight ahead.
3. Tighten screw (2) to:
Torque: 40.7–47.5 N·m (30–35 ft-lbs) Headlamp horizontal adjustment screw: FLRT (single headlamp)
4. Loosen vertical adjustment screw (1).
5. See Figure 1. Tilt headlamp up or down until light beam is correct.
6. Tighten vertical adjustment screw to:
Torque: 47.5–61 N·m (35–45 ft-lbs) Headlamp vertical adjustment screw: FLRT (single headlamp)
