See Figure 1. A unique 17-digit serial or Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N.) is found on each motorcycle. For a description of each item in the V.I.N., refer to Table 1.
Location
The full 17-digit serial or Vehicle Identification Number (V.I.N.) is stamped on the right side of the frame backbone at the rear of the steering head under the main wiring harness. A label bearing the V.I.N. code is also affixed to the left side of the steering head.
Abbreviated V.I.N.
An abbreviated V.I.N. is stamped on the left side of the crankcase below the engine cylinders.
