WARNING
The automatic-on headlamp feature provides increased visibility of the rider to other motorists. Be sure headlamp is on at all times. Poor visibility of rider to other motorists can result in death or serious injury. (00030b)
The ignition/headlamp key switch controls the distribution of power to the ignition and lamps.
The key can be removed when the key switch is in the OFF, LOCK or PARKING LAMP position. The key cannot be removed while in the ON position.
The headlamps illuminate when the ignition/headlamp key switch is ON. The tail lamp and running lamps are lit when the ignition/headlamp key switch is in the ON or PARKING LAMP position.
NOTE
  • If you leave the key in the ON or PARKING LAMP position for an extended period while parked, the lamps will eventually discharge the battery.
  • Record your key number in the space provided at the front of this book. The key number is impressed on a plastic tab that comes with the keys.
Turning Motorcycle On/Off
  1. See Figure 1. Turn the key clockwise to the ON (5) position.
    1. The needle will sweep the tachometer and calibrate at zero RPM.
    2. The instrument cluster will perform a bulb check. All indicator lamps and warning lamps will illuminate briefly. Check that all lamps are lit.
    3. The LCD screen will illuminate and display the time, odometer (in its last selected mode before key off), digital speedometer, and an introductory text message.

  3. See Figure 1. Turn the key counterclockwise to the OFF position (4) to shut the motorcycle off.
  4. NOTE
    • If security system is configured to automatically arm at key off, the security system will arm itself and the theft indicator in the instrument cluster will begin flashing.
    • If security system is configured to "ask" at key off, the instrument cluster will allow 4 minutes for the PIN to be entered to arm the security system. See Controls and Indicators → Disarming the Security System.
Parking the Motorcycle
Lamps can be turned on to increase the motorcycle's visibility to other motorists while parked.
See Figure 1. When the ignition switch is in the PARKING LAMP position, the running lamps, tail lamp, and instrument cluster are illuminated. The front and rear turn signals can also be activated.
  1. Turn handlebars full left.
  2. Turn the key counterclockwise to the PARKING LAMP position (1) to turn on the parking lamps. Key may be removed.
