During typical vehicle startup, the instrument cluster will go through the following initialization sequence.
  1. Rider turns key to ON position.
  2. If security system is armed, the PIN will be required. Failure to enter the correct PIN after 20 tries results in a 30 minute lockout.
  3. The instrument cluster performs self diagnostics and bulb check.
    1. The tachometer needle sweeps and calibrates to zero RPM.
    2. The tachometer backlighting and LCD screen are lit. The indicator lamps and warning lamps illuminate briefly.
  4. The LCD screen displays the digital speedometer, clock, odometer (in its last selected mode), and introductory text message.
  5. Rider starts engine.
  6. If any errors are detected when starting the vehicle, an error message is displayed on the LCD screen.
  7. If regular service is due, the LCD screen briefly displays SERVICE XXX (with the remaining distance until service due) or SERVICE NOW.
  8. The LCD screen flashes CT COLD until engine is warm.
  9. When engine is at normal operating temperature, the gear indicator and intake air temperature are displayed.
  10. Coolant temperature, battery voltage, and average/instantaneous fuel consumption information can be selected.
