Both batteries, Rechargeable Energy Storage System (RESS) and 12 V, on the S2 motorcycle are monitored by the motorcycle's operating system. If your Instrument Module (IM) indicates a battery fault or your motorcycle will not properly operate, see your authorized LiveWire dealer.
1. Remove seat. See Operation → Seat.
2. Deactivate electrical system. See SECURITY SYSTEM → Disconnecting Power.
Remove
WARNING
Disconnect negative (-) battery cable first. If positive (+) cable should contact ground with negative (-) cable connected, the resulting sparks can cause a battery explosion, which could result in death or serious injury. (00049a)
1. See Figure 1. Remove battery retainer (7).
2. Disconnect negative battery cable (2).
a. Remove negative terminal screw (1).
b. Position negative battery cable (2) out-of-way.
3. Disconnect positive battery cable (6).
a. Position positive terminal boot (5) aside. Remove positive terminal screw (4).
b. Position positive battery cable (6) out-of-way.
4. Remove battery (3).
Install
WARNING

NOTICE
Connect the cables to the correct battery terminals. Failure to do so could result in damage to the motorcycle electrical system. (00215a)
1. See Figure 1. Install battery (2).
2. Connect positive battery cable (6).
a. Align positive battery cable (6) to positive battery terminal.
b. Install positive terminal screw (4). Tighten.
Torque: 3–4 N·m (27–35 in-lbs) Battery terminal screw, positive

a. Align negative battery cable (2).
b. Install negative terminal screw (4). Tighten.
Torque: 3–4 N·m (27–35 in-lbs) Battery terminal screw, negative
NOTICE
Keep battery clean and lightly coat terminals with petroleum jelly to prevent corrosion. Failure to do so could result in damage to battery terminals. (00217a)
4. Apply a light coat of petroleum or electrical contact lubricant to both battery terminals.ELECTRICAL CONTACT LUBRICANT (11300004)
5. Position positive terminal boot (5).
6. Install battery retainer (7).
