The engine should be allowed to run slowly for 15-30 seconds. This will allow the engine to warm up and let oil reach all surfaces needing lubrication. Failure to comply can result in engine damage. (00563b)
Rolling the throttle before starting the motorcycle is unnecessary.
Starting
WARNING
Shift transmission to neutral before starting engine to prevent accidental movement, which could result in death or serious injury. (00044a)
NOTE
See Operation → Instruments → IFCU Indicators. The check engine lamp (13) will light when the ignition is turned on. You will hear the fuel pump run for a short time as it pressurizes the fuel system.
See Figure 1. With the security system fob present, press the OFF/RUN/START switch to RUN (4). Do not roll the throttle.
Rotate fork lock fully into the unlocked position.
Apply the brake to prevent movement of the motorcycle.
Squeeze the clutch lever in against the handgrip. Shift transmission to neutral.
Press and release the START (3) button to start the motorcycle.
NOTE
To allow enhanced lubrication of the engine before startup, the engine will crank a number of turns before starting.
When the engine has started, you can operate your motorcycle as you normally would after raising the jiffy stand.
